Trout fishing – Eastern Sierra’s South Fork of the Carson river

My buddy Yusef flew up from San Diego this weekend for some fishing. Saturday, we hooked up with another buddy of ours, Jonas who was taking us over to the Eastern Sierra’s for a day of Trout Fishing. Since arriving here in NorCal, I have yet to explore any of the quality fishing we have at our doorsteps… Let alone the Eastern Sierra’s!.. So I was all in! We headed off at O’dark thirty and the drive seemed to take forever to get over the mountains… but I was in good company and the scenery along the way was awesome! We finally arrived, drove around for a bit to find a spot. Once located, we spent several hours fishing various spots for several miles along the river. Jonas seemed to have it down, catching most of the fish with his power bait! (yuk!). Yusef did mange one as well.
We moved to a new spot and after I switched to power bait, (I know, I know) I finally connected with several nice little rainbow trout as well. To be honest, after leaving San Diego and all the “stocked” trout lakes,.. I thought my days of fishing with power bait were over… ESPECIALLY ON A RIVER! Shameful.
I can only imagine how much water I have to explore in this beautiful part of the world called Northern California…
I really hope most of it does not include Power Bait.
tight lines…

OK, I want to go. Can we do this on our vacation this July?
By the way Steve, you have fished the head waters in the Eastern Sierra’s at around 12,000. You should wright a story about the trip we back packed/camped and ran across the girls swimming.
If you need any info on that trip we can talk about it in July.

Yup! Sure can. Although there are plenty of places to fish that are closer than that.
