I Broke my custom GLoomis :-(

I try to fish at least three to four times a week, sometimes more. But, I usually unload my rods between trips… I got lazy. No big deal until the other nite on the way home from work, I cracked the rear window for a few, not noticing that one on my fishing rod tips had made it’s way out the window down to about the 3rd or 4th guide.
Yup! You guessed it! Up goes the window and crunch! Right in half… I hear the noise and look back in great horror. There’s the tip dangling outside the window held on by the line. At first I thought it was the spinning rod a buddy of mine had just recently given me… I quickly pull over, as if I might save it, or better yet, wake up and this might not be happening. No such luck. Then, to even greater horror I realize its my other rod! (Sorry B)
When I arrive home, I carried it inside as if I was carrying a dead pet or something. I was hoping to get A LOT of sympathy from my wife in effort to lesson the blow when I bring up the cost of a new one. No such luck. My older sister was also in the room and said, “just fish it like that!” I just chuckled and said ya right!, “Nice broom stick”. Head hung low I wondered off to the garage…
I had this rod built probably 20+ years ago while I worked at Bob’s Bait & Tackle in San Diego. It was a 7′-6″Crankn’ rod with a fiberglass tip. I have caught many bass with that rod, have a lot of fond memories and I will miss fishing it. I think I’ll have a memorial service when I do decide to throw it away… For now, it will sit up on the wall with all the other rods in it’s regular spot.
When I moved up here to NorCal I did not have any fishing gear for Strippers or Steelhead/Salmon. I was able to utilize two of my old inshore Calico Bass rods for the strippers and although this rod was a Crankn’ rod, it seemed like a pretty good rod for Steelhead/Salmon, etc. They were all working fine until that nite.
Most of my other rods are that old as well. I take care of them and they still work fine. Although I do see a new Steelhead Specific rod in my future, unfortunately for me, it’s just going to have to wait. Not in the budget right now.
Maybe Santa will bring me one of those new Gloomis Crankbait Rods!
See ya on the water.

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me about 12 years ago except I had my rods out the back side window of my pick up and my 10 year old son was waiting in the car for me. Started to rain and he rolled up the window breaking 2 tips off. Got back to the car and they were hanging out the window. Got to love family life. gahh.
Hey Shawn, thx for the comment. Do you work with/Own Costa Rica Sportfishing?
