American River Panoramics

Each time I’m on the American River fishing I will try to get at least one Panoramic shot. Unless of course it’s a “secret” fishing hole. (lol)

The North, Middle and South forks of the American River converge upstream of Folsom Reservoir. Below the dam, the main stem of the American River is often referred to as the “Lower American.” This is the section I spend most of my time fishing.

As it flows through Sacramento, much of the American River’s south (river-left) shore is part of the American River Parkway. Joggers, bicyclists, walkers and families all enjoy the riverside trails and beaches of this extensive park system.

For the most part, the Lower American River is quiet and tame. But several riffles provide playspots…

A word of caution: more people drown each year on the Lower American than on the seemingly more dangerous upper stretches. This is partly due to the larger numbers of visitors, but even more to the carelessness with which people treat the river. Though the river is calm, there is a steady current, and most of the year the water is cold. So please do our Search & Rescue teams a favor and follow safety precautions when wading or swimming.
