Bass Fishing Trifecta? Well, almost… I ventured out to Granite Bay on Folsom Lake the other morning to do some Bass fishing and try a few of the new Jerk Baits I got a few weeks ago. Among the selection were a couple Rapala Husky Jerks, the new X-Raps, and one awesome Lucky Craft Staysee 90. (At $16 bucks, I refrained and only got one Lucky Craft for now.)

This newer style of “suspending” jerk/rip baits are just awesome. All them worked wonderfully right out of the box and did not require any tunning. As you can see by the pic, I also purchased replacement Gamakatsu Hooks and new snap rings. After closer inspection of all the baits I must say, I’m pretty impressed with the hardware that came with them and left them alone. I will hold off on the replacement until proven otherwise.

I think it’s an understatement to say “Folsom is on the rise!” Unfortunately I was not able to get to the lake as early as I would liked to plus the area I had planned on fishing was now underwater. No big deal, it was awesome weather and plenty of great stuff to fish. I was planning on fishing until around noon, go get some lunch and then go fish the American for Stripers. Although I did not get any takers on any of my new baits I was able to get a nice chunky Bass on a drop shot worm.

Off to the American River,..

I met up with my Buddy Eric and we headed down to the river. After arriving, I fished a lot of top-water to no avail. I guess it’s still a bit early. I thought that with all this rain some fish may have moved into the system. Switched to a Storm Wildeye Swim Shad and after about 30 min. I hooked what I thought was a nice Striper,.. Nope! Just a Huge 24″ Squaw Fish! Niiiice. I had no idea they got that big.

Back in the water and a few more cast I finally hooked a Bass! A really healthy, fat, chunky Bass. I forget to check for the little tooth patch on the tongue, so I’m not sure if it was a Spotted Bass or a Large Mouth. Probably a spot or some sort of cross strain Small Mouth/Spot.

No Stripers that day! That was it for the day and it was getting dark so we headed back to the cars. So there ya have it,.. Fishing Trifecta! Hopefully I will have many more, but without the stinky Squaw Fish!

I must say it felt REALY good to have something pull on the end of my rod besides the snags I’ve been hooking lately on the American while Steelhead fishing!

See ya on the water!

Ps. Nice plug for  my buddies over at Kill Zone Outfitters.
