Hey Daniel, just an FYI - You can just click the green text "Reply" if it's an on going conversation. It's called threaded comments.

Anyways, I'm doubtful about his "8-10lb Spotted Bass". Those would be giants and the 10lbr would probably be a record! It's a bummer if any of the BIG spots get kept, they are the best breeders. But to each his own.

Cool you caught a catfish! Good luck and maybe I'll see ya out there sometime.

I didn't see the fish, he was keeping them in the water...
yesterday I went here ( 38.730144,-121.0702 ) and I got some bites and a catfish (~3lbs) with corn balls and some vanilla I found in the kitchen. The water is quite warm and only 1-3 ft deep... lots of carp are spawing in this area too.

Offtopic, the Abu Garcia Orra SX reel has a major flaw: it cuts any loose line caught between the button and the reel's frame. There is an easy fix, involving some masking tape. I wrote about it here; you might want to let people know about it before they lose any nice lures, or post about it on your blog.

Have a great weekend!

That can be a pretty good area to fish when the lake is up. But most of the year that arm is dry. The Russians fishing with corn balls and PB are usually fishing for Carp. Did you see the Bass you said he caught?

That might be it, they are spawning...
Today I met a guy in his 50s -from Moscow- at the lake; very nice person ;]
He was fishing here [+38° 45' 12.70", -121° 2' 59.10" (38.753527, -121.049750)" search that on maps.google.com] with corn mush balls (1/2 inch diameter ball on a 10 octupus hook ;]) and spread some peanut butter on the ball before casting; he got 2 fish in an hour: Spotted Bass 8~10 lbs.
At one point I caught a little frog and gave it to him, he smiled and said "not good for my fish" ;]]

Hey Daniel, Not sure what Islands you're talking about,.. There could be many depending on the water level. But those fish you saw "bathing in the sun" could have been spawning. That would explain why they would not be interested in food. Best to leave them alone to do their thing. Keep fishing!

I've just started fishing on Folsom Lake... The water is very high these days, lots of flooded parts on both north and south forks. One can see tens of fish on the surface of the lake if you take a look from the high road (from 2-3lbs to 10lbs and up) but they don't seem to bite anything. At one point I took a trip by foot on the 'islands' where trails used to be, and I could spot lots of fish just bathing in the sun. I threw all kind of food at them, but they are just not interested... nightcrawlers, liver, homemade bait, commercial bait, worms, dog food even some little frogs I've found there. Any idea what are they doing, or what's (not :}) going on? I might take a picture next time...

It looks like Tom wins the day in your boat.

His fish deserved a little more in my book, I would love to catch one that size.
