Friday Jan 15, 2010 My buddy Ron Howe from RB Bassfishing gave me call and asked if I was interested in fishing on Saturday? Sure! Where? It’s January. He had several upcoming tournaments on Oroville and wanted to spend the next couple of weekends preparing for them. So off we went at O’dark thirty. When we got to the lake, as expected it was pretty chilly. With the lake being sooo low, we had to launch from the dirt ramp. Water temps were in the 46-47 deg. range. Fortunately we didn’t have to go too far and we were catching fish at our first stop on Crank Baits 15-20ft and Spinner Baits slow rolled along the bottom.
Once the clouds cleared, blue sky, sun shining on the water we fished several other spots with only a few more takers,.. that bite pretty much shut down.
We changed our approach fishing jigs, drop shot, shaky head and darter. 6-7″ Robo Worms in Red Craw fished on a darter head seemed to be the ticket the remainder of the day. Ron and I fished all around the main body, up the narrows a bit, eventually heading up and finishing out our day in the south fork.
All in all it was an awesome day. Me being originally from San Diego, I didn’t do much Bass fishing in the winter down there. So this was truly an awesome day and I will certainly be back to fish Oroville and many of our other lakes in winter.
